In collaboration with Yale University, the French Embassy and a partnership with the Université de Toulouse — France, King/Robinson Magnet School features a unique Partial French Immersion Program.
Students in the Partial French Immersion Program spend half their day learning Literacy, Social Studies, and Science in French — and the other half learning Literacy and Math in English and participating in a variety of other core classes. Program Goals - to develop communicative and academic proficiency in French and in English
- to help students succeed academically in all subject areas
- to develop an understanding and appreciation of other cultures
Research shows that beginning the language learning process at a young age leads to: - increased language proficiency
- improved listening skills
- stronger problem-solving and creative thinking skills
- enhanced awareness of the global community
French instruction is offered in ALL
grades, from PreK3 to 8th grade:
- PreK3-Kindergarten: French is offered as a FLES course for 30 minutes, twice a week for 1
semester. They focus on songs, alphabet, greetings, colors and the calendar.
- Grade 1-4:
- Partial immersion with 45
to 60 minutes daily of instruction with a focus on reading,
writing, speaking, listening, foundation skills of French instruction as well as instruction in science through the IB units.
- Grade 5-8:
- 45 minutes of daily instruction following a
modified New Haven Public School French Curriculum
